Is it possible to debate politics without fistacuffs? Many a man still stick to "“Never discuss politics or religion.”. The Art of Manliness takes on the issue in How to Have a Civil Political Debate.

With all the election hoopla that's going on in our news, Saturday Nite Live's having a field day. And they will probably continue to do so, there seems to be plenty they could reference. But is the SNL skit covereage fair? Are they being too one-sided?

It seems our 2 larger political parties have been busy recently. The California Initiative No. 07-0032 Presidential Reform Act has been brought forth by "Californians for Equal Representation", who's address just happens to be the California Republican Party. And they're not the only ones. The legislature of North Carolina, controlled by Democrats, has taken up a bill to do the same as the California initiative. Though North Carolina's electoral votes pale in comparison to California's. Votescam by Hendrik Hertzberg at the The New Yorker has the scoop.

abelincoln writes "President Bush has decided to commute Scooter Libby's sentence (that's commute, not pardon). While Libby won't have to do any jail time, he'll have to pay the ~$250k fine and will be on probation for 2 years. But he won't be behind bars for 30 months."
update: Bush: Libby pardon still possible

Republican lawmakers are feeling the heat over immigration

Conservative groups seem to be rallying to let their Republican representatives know they shouldn't support the latest incarnation of the immigration bill.

Among those pushing the new measure is President Bush, who appealed for support in his weekly Saturday radio address by stressing revisions to the bill that would require stepped-up enforcement before other provisions could take effect.

Yet senators who back the bill have vowed they won't buckle but admit they're feeling pressure.

Immigration bill ignites grass-roots fire.
